The Doctors’ Association UK has said in a Press Release that doctors suffer from higher rates of suicide in comparison with the general population, with female doctors in particular up to four times more likely to take their own lives. 

Conditions within the NHS due to Covid-19 and a decade of Tory austerity has placed staff “under unprecedented pressures and many are struggling to meet the unrealistic demands of the job”. 

DAUK co-chair Dr Ellen Welch Dr Welch, who called for action to address “uncapped workloads and our workforce crisis,” said her thoughts are with the family of Dr Gail Milligan, a Surrey GP who committed suicide in July at the age of 47. Read the full story in Morning Star here
