I am writing to you as a doctor and as your constituent to ask you to attend the launch of The Doctors’ Association UK’s Learn Not Blame campaign on 20th November, to which you have been invited by Dr Philippa Whitford MP.
Learn Not Blame is a doctor-led campaign which aims both to empower individual doctors to transform the culture of their workplace, and to create a collective voice demanding change within NHS organisations at all levels. Learn Not Blame advocates an open, just, listening culture, where all are able to speak up and be heard, without fear or prejudice.
This event is being held in Committee Room 20 at 1.30pm to 3pm on 20th November and will be hosted and chaired by Dr Philippa Whitford MP. There will be a panel of speakers comprising Scott Morrish (bereaved parent and campaigner for a just culture in the NHS), Nick Ross (broadcaster and campaigner), Edwin Jesudason (former consultant surgeon and NHS whistleblower) and Cicely Cunningham (The Doctors’ Association UK Learn Not Blame Campaign Lead). Following the speakers, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion with the panel. An invited audience includes patient representatives, medical defence organisations, Royal College representatives, and patient safety campaigners, as well as doctors.
Furthermore, the event will be live-streamed through social media, and will be eagerly watched by many doctors and patients.
I very much hope you can make time in your busy schedule to attend this event, which is of vital importance to doctors – and more importantly – to patients and the NHS as a whole.
