DAUK on LBC News: Doctors fear second coronavirus surge due to lack of testing

The head of the Doctor's Association fears history will repeat itself and England will see a second coronavirus surge due to the lack of available coronavirus tests.

Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden is the Chair of the UK Doctor's Association and was speaking to Eddie Mair amid the news that no tests are available in England's top 10 hotspots, which was exclusively revealed by LBC.

DAUK's Dr Zainab Najim on the troubles of obtaining a COVID test as an essential worker

Trainee GP, Dr Najim and her doctor husband who have symptoms have been isolated for two days trying to get a test. And so far her husband's been told by his hospital there's no priority test for him.

'We have contacted occupational health, but they can't take calls. We've left an email and their response has been that they are really, really overstretched at the moment and to try the government service in the first instance. And in the meantime, they are trying to work through the backlog.'

DAUK on ITV News: Dr Zainab Najim on Testing Failures

DAUK were featured on ITV News last night with regards to the lack of testing for NHS staff. Recent data shows that significant numbers of healthcare workers, including many doctors, have not been able to access testing.

Dr Zainab Najim, a GP with DAUK’s GP Advisory Board: "We have been on the government website, refreshing every 20-30 minutes with no luck at all. To be stuck at home for two days not being able to do your job properly and at a time when the NHS needs its doctors the most is incredibly frustrating.”
