DAUK front page of the Daily Mirror: harrowing stories of burned out NHS doctors bullied and broken

Dedicated to caring for the sick and vulnerable, junior ­doctors should expect to be ­supported and valued as they carry out their vital work. But hundreds have revealed they are subjected to bullying and harassment at overstretched hospitals that have been plunged into a staffing crisis. The Doctors’ Association UK has collated stories from over 600 doctors. The shocking report made the front page of the Daily Mirror.

In her TED talk Sammy reframes the burnout debate and explains that doctors are suffering from moral injury, the psychological harm that occurs when doctors cannot give patients the care they deserve due to system pressures. Sammy also speaks openly and honestly about her experience of being on the other side on the NHS as an A&E and ICU registrar when her son was born at 27 weeks and spent 3 months in intensive care. DAUK in The Guardian: Dossier reveals ‘petty tortures’ of NHS trainee doctors denied leave

This week we got in touch with DAUK member Dr Joanna Poole, an anaesthetic registrar whose post about wanting to quit medicine went viral on Twitter. DAUK were able to support Joanna and were able to help see this piece published in The Guardian on Joanna’s behalf. Now, Joanna is joining forces with DAUK to encourage doctors to speak out as part of DAUK’s #NHSMeToo campaign.
