DAUK in The Week:Coroners Inquests into NHS Deaths must be comprehensive

Rinesh Parmar, the chair of the Doctors Association UK, has expressed concern. He said: “The provision of PPE is so vital to the safety of health workers that to suggest coroners do not consider its supply in detail misses a big part of the picture.”

He added: “Only comprehensive inquests into the deaths of every NHS and care worker will give the bereaved the ability to ask questions and have the circumstances of their loved ones’ deaths fully explained.”

DAUK in Telegraph: Inquests into the deaths of NHS Workers must look at look at PPE provision

"Inquests into the deaths of NHS workers from coronavirus should not examine systemic failures in the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), the Chief Coroner has warned."

"Rinesh Parmar, the chair of the Doctors Association UK, said the issue of whether a lack of PPE contributed to some of the deaths would be an essential part of the inquest process."

"He said: "The provision of PPE is so vital to the safety of health workers that to suggest coroners do not consider its supply in detail misses a big part of the picture. Only comprehensive inquests into the deaths of every NHS and care worker will give the bereaved the ability to ask questions and have the circumstances of their loved ones’ deaths fully explained."

DAUK petition and crowdfunder for public inquiry into healthcare worker deaths in addition to coroner’s inquests

Doctors are dying. Nurses are dying. This is unforgivable. DAUK is now calling for a full public inquiry into the government’s failure to source adequate PPE and protect frontline staff. We need a commitment to this now, with a full inquiry to be launched once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

We have asked Coroners to open inquests into each healthcare worker death NOW to ensure that evidence if preserved and that families get much needed answers.

We have now launched a crowdfund to enable us to create a campaign platform to lobby MPs on a full public inquiry on PPE as well as investigations into all NHS healthcare worker deaths from COVID-19. Families of NHS staff who died in the line of duty during this national emergency must have answers if their loved ones weren’t adequately protected. We are also taking legal advice on a full public inquiry as well as other legal challenges that we desperately need donations for.

Please help us by supporting the crowdfund here.

Healthcare workers please support our effort to get PPE to the frontlines by becoming a member. Members of the public and NHS supporters can also sign up as associate members.
